Updates
The app and the M1's firmware update separately, but they're connected: firmware travels inside app updates.
To get a new firmware version onto your device, update the app first, then update the device from inside it.
The app
App updates come out often — new features, refinements, bug fixes, and any firmware that's ready to ship to the M1. Turn on automatic updates in the App Store, or check in yourself every so often.
If something looks off after an update — or at any point, really — tell us: support@offbitdevices.com. That kind of report is genuinely useful. It's often how we catch something before the next release goes out.
The M1's firmware
Once the app is current, update the device itself: Settings → Firmware.
While It Updates
Every button is blocked while firmware is being written, so an update can't be interrupted by accident. Wait for UPDATING DEVICE. PLEASE WAIT... to finish.
Keep the phone close and the device charged. Updates are blocked on low battery for the same reason.
If An Update Stops Halfway
The device is built to survive this. An update that doesn't complete rolls back to the firmware it had before. Charge it, reconnect and try again.
"Your M1 already runs a newer firmware"
Your device is ahead of your app. Update the OBM-1 app from the App Store.
"The firmware arrived corrupted"
The transfer was damaged in the air. Move closer to the device and retry. The M1 rejected it rather than installing something broken — that's the safety net working as intended.
"This firmware failed its authenticity check and was rejected"
The device only accepts firmware signed by us, and this package wasn't.
